The Belmont Forum
Established in 2009, the Belmont Forum is a partnership of funding organizations, international science councils, and regional consortia committed to the advancement of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary science. Forum operations are guided by the Belmont Challenge, a vision document that encourages:
Forum members and partner organizations work collaboratively to meet this Challenge by issuing international calls for proposals, committing to best practices for open data access, and providing transdisciplinary training. To that end, the Belmont Forum is also working to enhance the broader capacity to conduct transnational environmental change research through its e-Infrastructure and Data Management initiative.
The Belmont Forum was the former Steering Committee of The International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research (IGFA) and has merged according to the decision made at the IGFA meeting on the 8th of October 2014. It aims to accelerate delivery of the environmental research needed to remove critical barriers to sustainability by aligning and mobilizing international resources. It pursues the goals set in the Belmont Challenge by adding value to existing national investments and supporting international partnerships in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scientific endeavors.
The Belmont Forum is a group of high-level representatives from major funding agencies of global environmental change research across the globe and coordinates funding for Collaborative Research Actions (CRA). CRAs are high-priority research activities designed to improve the way funding agencies collaborate with each other and develop opportunities for research.
MOST-Taiwan has been elected as a full member in the 10th Belmont Forum plenary meeting in the October of 2015.
